When you apply for a virtual assistant, customer support or operations role, employers and clients want evidence that you can do the work. A short portfolio of practical samples is often more persuasive than a list of courses.

Choose three to five strong samples

Quality matters more than quantity. Pick work that matches the roles you want. For an assistant role, that might be:

  • A calendar and meeting plan for a busy week
  • An organised inbox with labels, filters and saved replies
  • A clear SOP for a routine task
  • A professional client email or customer response

Explain each sample in four lines

For every piece, write briefly:

  1. The situation: what needed doing.
  2. What you did: the steps and tools you used.
  3. The result: what improved or what the output enabled.
  4. What you would do next: this shows judgement.

Protect privacy

Never share real client data. Use realistic sample information, or remove names and details, and say that you have done so.

Make it easy to view

A simple shared folder, a one-page document with links, or a free portfolio site all work. Test every link on a phone before you send it.

Keep it current

Replace older samples as you complete better work. Each new project, including training assignments, is a chance to strengthen your portfolio.
